The AeroPress is the Swiss army knife of coffee brewing. Lightweight, nearly indestructible, and endlessly versatile — it produces a concentrated, bold brew in under two minutes.

Equipment Needed

  • AeroPress (original or Go)
  • AeroPress paper or metal filter
  • Kettle
  • Scale with timer
  • Coffee grinder
  • Sturdy mug

Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Set up inverted

Insert the plunger into the chamber about 1 cm and flip upside down (inverted method). This prevents premature dripping.

2

Add coffee

Add 15 g of fine-to-medium ground coffee into the inverted chamber.

3

Add water

Pour 200 g of water at 85–90 °C. The slightly lower temperature suits the immersion and pressure method.

4

Stir and steep

Give the slurry a gentle stir for 10 seconds. Let it steep for 60 seconds total.

5

Cap and flip

Place a rinsed filter in the cap, screw it on, and carefully flip the AeroPress onto your mug.

6

Press

Press the plunger down slowly and steadily for about 20–30 seconds. Stop when you hear a hiss.

Pro Tips

  • Experiment with water temperature — cooler water (80 °C) produces a sweeter, less bitter cup.
  • The inverted method gives you full control over steep time.
  • Try a metal filter for a fuller body with more oils in the cup.
  • The AeroPress is perfect for travel — it's lightweight and virtually unbreakable.
