What is the difference between Arabica and Robusta coffee beans?

The main difference between Arabica and Robusta is taste. The Arabica is aromatic and has soft and sweet flavors. The Robusta, on the other hand, is a firm and powerful bean and is therefore also more bitter. Coffee beans with 100% Robusta do not occur quickly because this will ensure that the coffee becomes very bitter. That is why you often see with robusta that it comes in a blend. The more robusta beans there are in the blend, the more spice and bitterness there will be in the coffee.

The caffeine content of both beans is also quite different. Caffeine is actually a defense system of the plant to protect itself against diseases and parasites. The Robusta grows at a lower altitude and therefore comes into contact with more parasites, resulting in the Robusta having more caffeine than the Arabica. The Arabica grows at an average altitude of 1500 meters or higher. As a result, there is less chance of diseases and parasites and therefore Arabica needs less caffeine.

The taste of both beans is described above. If you prefer bitter, it is important that there is some Robusta in the blend. The more Robusta, the more bitter the coffee. If you don't like bitter at all, the Arabica bean is the bean for you and the blend should contain as little Robusta as possible.
