If you live in a small apartment or house, you should always think 2x before making a new purchase. But what if you like delicious coffee but have a limited space? Of course, you just want to be able to have a nice cup of coffee whenever the need arises. For coffee lovers in a small apartment, we have some recommendations that take up little space, but still allow you to brew very good coffee.

Small, but nice!

The smallest coffee machine we were able to find is the Krups Essenza. This is a Nespresso machine where you use capsules. The machine is only 14 cm wide, so it will fit in any kitchen: small or large. The operation and maintenance is self-explanatory as with any Nespresso or coffee cup machine. You place the capsule in the machine, press a button and the machine immediately starts brewing coffee. Every now and then you rinse the machine (clean) by pressing the same button for a longer time.

VERY FAST COFFEE BREWING

Despite the small size of Nespresso machines, they are capable of brewing coffee very quickly. Whereas with a fully automatic machine you have to wait quite some time, with a Nespresso machine you can start brewing coffee within seconds. At first, this seems like a small advantage, but you only find out how big this advantage is when you come downstairs with your sleepy head and the coffee is ready for you in no time.

CHEAP TO BUY!

A Nespresso machine, unlike a fully automatic machine, is very cheap to buy. You can buy such a coffee maker for a few tens of dollars. With other coffee machines, you can easily spend several hundred euros. Just keep in mind that the cost per cup of coffee is a lot higher with Nespresso than when you use coffee beans or ground coffee.

Fresh ground coffee

For those who like to enjoy freshly ground coffee, we have fully automatic coffee makers. These machines actually do everything for you: they grind the coffee beans and with the push of a button you make black coffee or coffee with frothed milk. Making a cappuccino at home has never been easier. The problem with these machines is that they use a lot of energy and take up a lot of space. So less suitable for a small apartment.

But what if you still like to drink coffee from freshly ground coffee? Unfortunately, small fully automatic coffee makers are hard to find. Fortunately, we found two that might fit in your kitchen. However, it is important that you check the dimensions carefully, because these two options are also a bit larger than the average fully automatic coffee maker.

MELITTA CAFFEO SOLO

The Melitta Caffeo Solo is a fine coffee machine that only makes black coffee. It is the smallest fully automatic we could find with a 1.1-liter water tank a 125-gram bean container. The coffee is nice and hot and the machine looks nice. If you drink a lot of coffee, you will have to refill the water tank and bean container regularly. Because this machine is a lot smaller it is also a lot cheaper. If I am correct, this Melitta costs about 300 euros at the time of writing. This is the minimum price for a fully automatic espresso machine.

JURA ENA 4 AND JURA ENA 8

Do you like to drink a cappuccino or flat white in addition to black coffee? Then it is quite difficult to find a compact coffee bean machine. After all, machines with a milk function take up a lot of space. Fortunately, Jura has managed to create a very small machine that does give you a choice of 10 coffee specialties. This is the Jura Ena 8: a luxury coffee machine that gives you many setting options without taking up a lot of space. For example, this coffee maker even lets you control the thickness of the foam.

But it is still Jura and this is a premium brand. For example, the Jura Ena 8 costs more than a thousand euros. By no means everyone has that much money to spare for a coffee machine. Neither do you? Then you could opt for the Jura Ena 4. DIt is the smaller brother of the Jura Ena 8. This one is even a bit smaller, but you'll have to make do with black coffee only. So you have a choice of espresso, lungo or americano.

Filter machine?

If you don't mind drinking filter coffee then you might consider a filter coffee maker. These are slightly larger than a Nespresso machine, but a lot smaller compared to a full automatic. Filter coffee tastes good in my opinion, but not everyone is into this. Filter coffee tastes different from an espresso and with a filter coffee maker you don't make a cappuccino or any other coffee with milk as easily.

Conclusion: which machine fits in your apartment?

Which coffee machine fits best in your apartment depends on the size of your kitchen. We always recommend measuring your kitchen and comparing it to the dimensions of a coffee machine. Make no mistake, a coffee machine or any electronic device is often a lot bigger than it seems. Many people mistake this especially with a bean coffee machine. These seem quite small in the picture, but they are hefty devices that do not fit in every kitchen. Good luck finding a suitable coffee machine for your apartment.
