The countdown to the holiday season has begun. The first lights, decorations, and themed markets have appeared in cities. To accompany this waiting period for Christmas, there is nothing more suitable than a DIY advent calendar.

Let's see together how to make one at home by recycling coffee capsules.

DIY advent calendar: creative recycling

The tradition of advent calendars has actually existed for a long time, but especially in recent years it has turned into a real fashion, to the point that so many brands have started competing to make their own.

Currently, there are many on the market of various types: cosmetics, toys, products inspired by movies and TV series, clothing, jewelry, sweets, and household items. Of course, buying it ready-made is very convenient, but none of these calendars can match the joy and satisfaction of having created one with your own hands.

If there are children in the house with you, then creative recycling can be turned into a game for everyone to play together. Try making homemade capsule dispensers as well.

How to make an advent calendar at home

First, make sure you have everything you need on hand. Of course, you can add to our list whatever you want to personalize your idea even more.

Supplies

  1. Coffee capsules.
  2. Green dessert napkins.
  3. Colored cardstock.
  4. Office elastic bands.
  5. Colored markers.
  6. Hot glue.
  7. Scissors.
  8. Rigid boards or thick cardboard.

Procedure

First, clean all the capsules by emptying them of coffee powder and letting them dry. Set them aside and devote yourself to the cardboards. You will need to cut out circles the same diameter as the capsule opening. Cut out 24 circles, and on each one write a number from 1 to 24.

Now take the napkins and cut out four squares from each one: you will need them to cover the capsule, which you will need to attach them to using rubber bands. Before you do that, put a little gift to unwrap in each capsule: we know space is tight, but there can be lots of ideas.

Chocolates, candies, rings, earrings, and pins: all you have to do is let your imagination run wild.

That done, close each capsule with a napkin and elastic. Now on the back of each headband made with cardstock, apply a little hot glue and glue each number on the napkin that closes the capsule.

Join the panels together with hot glue to give them the shape you want. If, on the other hand, you wish to use a single panel, draw in pencil the three vertices of a triangle for reference. Why do this? Simply because our calendar will be shaped like a Christmas tree.

Arrange all 24 capsules, leaving one for the top tip, possibly the one intended for December 24.

And that's it. You can add decorations, stickers, drawings, or anything else you want.
