Coffee beans always need to be ground to make a delicious cup of coffee. Nowadays, it is possible to buy ready-made ground coffee, but many coffee lovers choose to grind their own coffee. This is because coffee is a fresh product, which tastes best when freshly ground. So you want to make a deliciously fresh cup of coffee? Then you can use a coffee grinder to grind your own coffee beans.

You grind coffee to extract the versatile flavor from the coffee bean. Once you grind a coffee bean, its rich aroma is released. The finer you grind the beans, the shorter the extraction time for a strong cup of coffee. If you grind your own coffee, you have complete control over how coarse or fine the grind is. This allows you to use the same coffee for different brewing methods. For a cafetière, a very coarse grind is best; for filter coffee, it is best to use a coarse grind; and for an espresso machine, a fine grind is ideal.

There are different ways to grind coffee, but a special coffee grinder is a popular option. This is because you create an even grind that you won't achieve with a blender or mortar. This ensures that your coffee gets the strength and taste you desire. Some fully automatic coffee machines are already equipped with a coffee grinder. If you want to buy a separate one, you have a choice of two types: an electric and a manual coffee grinder.

Electric coffee grinder

If a coffee grinder is electric, then you have to work considerably less hard to grind your coffee beans. With just the push of a button, the coffee beans are ground, and you can make a cup of coffee within seconds. A good electric coffee grinder has different settings, so you can adjust the grinding of the beans to suit your needs.

However, it is important to invest in a good electric coffee grinder. Choose a model with grinding discs instead of blades. These ensure an even grind. Ceramic grinding discs are better than metal grinding discs because they do not heat the beans. Thus, the taste of the coffee remains optimal. The downside is that these electric coffee grinders are pricier. So you have to pay a little extra to get the right grind for your coffee.

A disadvantage is that electric versions often take up considerably more space on your countertop. You also need access to an electrical outlet to use them and they tend to be a bit noisy. On the other hand, with the right electric coffee grinder, you'll always have perfectly ground coffee within seconds.

Manual coffee grinder

If you use a manual coffee grinder, it has a lever that you have to turn to grind the coffee. This takes a bit more work than with an electric coffee grinder, but is still relatively quick. You also have complete control over how coarse or fine you grind the coffee.

Manual coffee grinders are easy to use and also easy to clean. They require less maintenance than the electric variety and are small enough to hold with one hand. So, they also take up less space in your kitchen. The price of a manual coffee grinder is also attractive.

The disadvantage of these coffee grinders is that you have to use muscle power to grind your coffee. This is not so bad for one cup of coffee, but requires more force when you want to make coffee for a larger group. The upside is that it does give you a free pass to skip the gym for a day. It is also important with a manual one to keep a close eye on the grind so that it is not too coarse or too fine.

Still, does it all sound like a lot of work? Then, of course, you can still rely on our delicious ground coffee flavors!
