A special variety of specialty coffee is produced in the Dominican Republic. These coffees, which are often sold under the name Santo Domingo coffee, are best known for their body, moderate to mild acidity, rich aroma and earthy tones.
Coffee grown in the Dominican Republic has a higher acidity than coffee in neighboring areas. Considered a Caribbean coffee along with Jamaican coffee and Puerto Rican coffee, Dominican coffee is, in fact, the least distinct of the three, although it is a well-grown coffee, with good processing is well balanced and has classic characteristics.
