HOW TO MAKE A TURKISH COFFEE

Recently I went on vacation to Istanbul, and since I am a big coffee lover, I went to dozens of different coffee houses to taste a natural cup of Turkish coffee. However, since I can't go to Turkey every week, I decided to learn the cooking method and share it with you in this article.

Turkish coffee was invented hundreds of years ago by the Ottomans. The exceptional taste, fullness, aroma, preparation and presentation of Turkish coffee give the coffee an exclusive identity associated with a tradition where time is significant. The coffee is made with high-quality Arabica beans from Central America and Brazil, which are mixed, then roasted to a medium-light level and ground extra fine.

Preparation method Turkish coffee (one cup)

  • Pour water into a small Turkish coffee cup called fincan(about 50 ml) and pour it into a small copper cezve coffee pot.
  • Add two teaspoons of Turkish coffee. The grind should be much finer than espresso, so the coffee eventually sinks to the bottom.
  • Add up to two teaspoons of sugar (optional).
  • Tip: while making the Turkish coffee, fill the fincan with hot water so that it is hot. Empty the cup just before pouring the coffee into the cup.
  • Put the cezve on low heat and stir for about a minute. Then let the coffee boil without stirring. This should take about 3-4 minutes.
  • Pour the coffee into the fincan in a smooth motion so that all the foam is included.
  • Serve with a small cup of fresh water (traditionally done in Turkey).
  • Take a small sip of water to cleanse the palate, and then once the ground coffee has settled to the bottom, drink the coffee in small sips.
  • Do not drink the ground coffee at the bottom. You can use this to predict your future. Turn your cup over once you have drunk all the liquid. Wait a while for the formed coffee cartridges to harden and try to predict your future.
