For those who sometimes decide to try something different from the classic espresso, perhaps something more gluttonous and sugary, hazelnut coffee is definitely the right choice. But what is it all about?

Hazelnut coffee is a Campania specialty born in the province of Salerno in the 1990s, years of great tourist and cultural development for the region. In a short time this coffee became a real specialty, so much so that today it is one of the most beloved coffees in Naples.

The combination is as simple as it is innovative: a mousse of roasted hazelnuts is added to the espresso or coffee prepared in the mocha, sweetening it and enhancing the naturally roasted notes of the coffee.

How to make hazelnut coffee

Today this coffee is easily found in many Italian coffee shops, although the best still remains in Naples. However, with a few small steps you can easily prepare it at home as well.

Ingredients

  • 40 g roasted and peeled hazelnuts
  • 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar
  • Liquid cream
  • Aiello espresso or mocha coffee

Preparation

The first thing to do is to prepare the hazelnut paste. Take the roasted and peeled hazelnuts and place them in a blender. Operate it and keep blending until the hazelnuts start to release their oil. At this point add the powdered sugar as well. When the paste is ready you need to create the mousse. Take some liquid cream, heat it and add the hazelnut paste. Mix until everything is well blended. Once ready let it rest in the refrigerator;

Meanwhile, prepare the coffee. We recommend espresso but mocha is also fine. Once ready, take a small glass, add two teaspoons of hazelnut mousse in the bottom and finally pour the coffee. Now all you have to do is mix and enjoy!
