Caffè Lungo, Italian for "long coffee," is a popular type of coffee because of its many flavor components. It is well balanced and less strong than, for example, an Espresso. Do you like to enjoy a nice cup of coffee and do you prefer a Lungo? Then read on quickly, because we will explain to you what exactly the Lungo is, which coffee beans you should use, and how you can make a perfect cup of Lungo yourself.

What is a Caffè Lungo?

The Lungo is an Italian coffee variety and is also considered a "stretched espresso". This coffee variety is distinguished primarily by a longer extraction process. A Lungo uses just as much coffee as an espresso, but with a larger amount of water. It therefore takes longer for all the water to be pressed through the coffee. This ultimately results in a strong cup of coffee. The Lungo can therefore also be seen as a weakened espresso. In the low countries, they drink the Lungo mainly because they traditionally have a strong filter coffee culture.

Which beans do you use for the Lungo?

To prepare a Lungo, you use the same coffee beans as for making a cup of espresso. Lightly roasted coffee beans are preferred. Make sure that the beans are not too light, otherwise the coffee taste will not be as strong.

How to make a Lungo?

Do you like coffee, preferably not too strong but subtly bitter? Then a Lungo is definitely worth trying. And you can make it at home with your own espresso machine! Use the Lungo recipe below to make the perfect Lungo:

1. Preheat the coffee cup.
