Where is coffee consumed the most?

It is well-known the fact that over the years coffee has become one of the most consumed beverages in the world not just for its intern benefits but for a diversity of others such as: hair growth, acne treatment, and other treatment for skin, anti-aging effects, calming effects, and the list can keep going. But one of the main reasons why coffee plays a significant role in our lives is for the fact that it helps you start your morning with a good vibe improving the energy level and also the physical performance. So one of the questions that is on everyone's lips is where is coffee consumed the most?

Netherland is the most addicted country to Coffee

According to Statista the country most addicted to Coffee in 2020 was Netherlands followed by Finland, Sweden and Norway. There is no surprise the Netherlands took the first place because they have one of the strongest coffee in the world compared to England but it doesn't taste as strong as Italian Coffee. Netherland is considered one of the largest re-exporters of coffee in Europe so they put a lot of effort into their “Koffie” and also a lot of passion.

Dutch people might be really obsessed with coffee since they consume an average of 4 cups a day. Most people put the blame of this high consumption on the fact that the weather is kind of cold and a cup of coffee warms their mornings and keeps them awake. But there can be other reasons that contribute to this such as: the availability of coffee in each and every store, supermarkets and work, so it's easier to reach out for a cup of coffee here in Netherlands than other countries.

Coffee in a Dutch note

Every country has a particularity that differentiates their coffee than other countries. Netherlands for example don't use artificial sweeteners, their coffee is being drunk with or without milk and sometimes sugar. Moreover, they use a  patient brewing method which enables them to extract all flavours in a slow manner from the used coffee beans so that you will feel amazed by the taste of strong fruity flavors combined with a chocolate aftertaste that will remind you of classic Belgium chocolate. Their flavours are at their highest quality, very aromatic and very unique. Maybe that could be the reason why the Dutch coffee is recognized as being “the wine amongst coffee”.

Favourites types of coffee consumed there are cappuccino and the old italian espresso with frothed alternative milk ( coconut milk, oat milk, soy milk, etc.)Unusual is the fact that they drink coffee anytime they feel like it, so it doesn't matter If it's 8 PM they could go for a latte macchiato without any concern of having insomnia.

Best coffee house in Netherlands

If it happens to have a trip in the Netherlands which I strongly recommend, make sure you buy coffee from the right places. There are some recommendations of coffee houses in Netherlands:

  • Dampkring - a great spacious coffee shop in Amsterdam that became famous for the fact that the crew of “Ocean’s 12” shot some scenes there.

  • Bluebird - founded in 1982,  is now a modern cafe with a great atmosphere and positive vibe.

  • Abraxas - they have a keen eye on detail and put emphasis on how they treat their customers. They offer a great internet connexion and a welcoming atmosphere.

  • Siberie - being different from others by having free horoscope readings, concerts, exhibitions, and DJ performances sometimes.

  • The Bulldog - located in Leidseplein, the building looks like a former Amsterdam police station and it was the first coffee shop in Amsterdam. They maintain their good reputation by providing the best services and really strong coffee.

I am firmly convinced that the Netherlands have one of the best coffee in the world and this is one of the reasons why they are so addicted to it. Besides the good coffee and the astonishing sight seeing the Dutch streets offer, tourists are triggered by the atmosphere that is very contemplative, positive and relaxed. There is no doubt they will maintain their position at coffee consumption now that they are one of the most important exporters of coffee in the world. They were in the first position since 2017 and I am not sure they want to fall down from that place. If you are a coffelover and want a taste of good coffee make sure you find a way to get to the Netherlands. You will fall in love at the first taste.
